SUCCESS FOR EFSUMB YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD CANDIDATE AT THE WFUMB 2025 CONGRESS
EFSUMB is delighted that Martin Garset-Zamani won the Young Investigator Award in Kyoto at the WFUMB 2025 Congress.
Martin Garset-Zamani is a Danish physician and clinical researcher with a focus on head and neck surgical oncology. He has just completed his PhD at the University of Copenhagen, focused on the development and clinical implementation of transoral ultrasonography for diagnosing and staging oropharyngeal cancers. His work has led to several novel prospective clinical studies, where he has found significant clinical impact using the technique to detect small or submucosal primary oropharyngeal cancers in patients with HPV-associated cancers. Together with supervisor Tobias Todsen, they are the first to explore the use of intraoperative transoral ultrasonography for HPV-associated cancers of unknown primary, during robotic surgery, and using an ex vivo method on surgical specimens to evaluate tumor margins.
Dr. Garset-Zamani has authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications, including multiple first-author papers in high-impact journals. He has presented his work internationally and received multiple awards, including the “Young Investigator Award” at Euroson in Naples (EFSUMB) 2024 and recently in Kyoto (WFUMB) 2025.
He has led a multicenter clinical trial (SPOTUS) which focused on the generalizability of outpatient-performed transoral and transcervical ultrasonography which has just been accepted for publication. He also actively teaches ultrasonography to physicians in Denmark and abroad. His efforts aim to enhance early detection and treatment of cancer, and improve patient outcomes through innovative ultrasound-guided techniques.

STUDENT SUMMER SCHOOL - 4 - 6 SEPTEMBER, BERLIN
One of the most important strategic goals of the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) is to improve medical students' ultrasound education. The medical students who are enthusiastic about ultrasound are the future of ultrasound in Europe and the future of EFSUMB. We have established Young EFSUMB with a Students' committee and Students' Ultrasound Congresses (STUC) among other things. The enthusiasm of the participating medical students is amazing and vital and crucial for our future development.
Not all European countries support medical students' ultrasound education at universities and in the national ultrasound societies. This is why EFSUMB, with the support of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA), has decided to create a new Euroson Students' Summer School to support medical students and 1st and 2nd year residents in learning how to use ultrasound and to teach their fellow students and young.
We kindly invite you to participate in the very first
EFSUMB summer school in Berlin from September 4 - 6, 2025 in Hotel Aquino, very close to the vibrant city center of Berlin and the famous Charite hospital with links to names as Rudolf Virchow, Robert Koch and Ferdinand Sauerbruch.
The program with its two levels is designed for real beginners, but also for medical students and young residents with some basic experience in ultrasound. We have included many live demonstrations and hands-on sessions in the program, will combine learning with entertainment, interactive cases, brainstorming, exchange of views and experiences, and learning how to teach your fellows students.
Registrations for this Summer School have proved popular so places are very limited. To secure your spot - register below >

EUROSON SCHOOL: HOW TO INCORPORATE CEUS INTO YOUR IMAGING PRACTICE - REPORT
The London CEUS School (18-19 June 2025) was hugely successful with an international faculty and attended by 49 participants, largely from the UK but also from as far afield as Australia, China and USA.
One of the speakers was overheard to comment wondering if the attendees had any idea how lucky they were to be listening to lectures from the world’s leading experts.
2026 will see the return of the CEUS Pediatric Course. |

ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND SCHOOL IN ROME - REPORT
The Euroson school "Abdominal ultrasound from basics to advanced applications", promoted by school of ultrasound of University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome (Italy), was a great success. More than 40 doctors attended the course from all over Italy and Europe (Bulgaria, Romania, Poland) but also from Turkey and Armenia.
World-renowned opinion leaders such as Prof. Ioan Sporea of the University of Timsoara in Romania and Prof. Shuichiro Shiina from Juntendo University in Tokyo, took part in the course with their lectures. Moreover, the event was honored by the lecture of the newly elected president of EFSUMB, Prof. Vito Cantisani.
"It was a unique experience, with the opening of our ultrasound school to Europe and Asia, thanks to EFSUMB. The aim is to export our educational model to promote the professional growth of young doctors, sharing the ultrasound skills" said Dr. Giovanni Galati, course director.
We had also three hands-on sessions with normal human models, organized in eight stations, each one with an ultrasound machine and experienced tutor.
What experience for us!
Now, we are planning the next School!
Save the date! 10-11 September 2026!
The topic will be abdominal and liver ultrasound..from basic to advanced.
We are waiting for You!
Giovanni Galati,
Rome

EFSUMB is delighted to have been invited back to UEG week to conduct the Ultrasound hands-on programme again this year from October 4 to 7, 2025.
Ultrasonography for gastroenterologists!
The Ultrasound Hands-on Programme highlights clinical ultrasonography as a key diagnostic and interventional tool in gastroenterology. It offers free basic and postgraduate courses, individual hands-on training, and special lectures in abdominal ultrasound for gastroenterologists at all levels, regardless of prior experience.
New 2025: Introductory course on Ultrasound in IBD, October 7
Ultrasound has become a key tool in diagnosing and managing Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), offering accuracy comparable to MRI but with lower cost and immediate, bedside integration. It allows for real-time clinical assessment, imaging, and decision-making—all by the gastroenterologist. |
For the first time at UEG Week, we’re offering an introductory course on ultrasound in IBD. International experts will guide participants through the essentials of sonographic diagnostics in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis through lectures, live patient demos, and hands-on training. Participants should have basic knowledge of sonographic imaging or acquire it beforehand by attending the Basic and Advanced Courses in the Ultrasound Learning Area.
No online pre-registration is required.
Limited spots are available, and participation is based on a first-come, first-served basis on-site and does not involve any extra costs in addition to your registration for UEG Week and/or PGT.
